Time for my 2022 annuÂal review.
In this post, I’ll do my best to answer these three quesÂtions: 1This format is inspired by James Clear’s annuÂal reviews.
What went well this year?
What didÂn’t go so well this year?
What am I workÂing toward?
Here we go:
What Went Well This Year?
Epic sumÂmer. Both wifey and I invesÂted in extra-long vacaÂtions, and with our 8‑year-old son, we spent most of the sumÂmer without parÂticÂuÂlar plans. We talked, laughed, walked, took phoÂtos, went on hikes, went for midÂnight swims, creÂated conÂtent, binged tv series, and cooked good food togethÂer. I learned that hapÂpiÂness could be found in havÂing empty calÂenÂdars together.
Dad stuff. It’s not easy being a good fathÂer or knowÂing what that entails, but I think I’m doing quite alright. Regarding obligÂaÂtions, being a parÂent is what I care more about than anyÂthing else.
Sales. In my part-time role as CEO at KIX Index, I conÂverÂted twelve major brands into cliÂents durÂing the year. People in our locÂal marÂket are now beginÂning to refer to our product as a standÂard measurement.
Video editÂing. Since I’m also in the proÂcess of creÂatÂing online PR courses right now, I now know how to edit videos at a decent level. Learning about video recordÂing, audio capÂturÂing, stuÂdio lightÂing, and video editÂing has been overÂwhelmÂing, but I’m grateÂful for these pracÂticÂal comÂmuÂnicÂaÂtion skills.
Watch colÂlecÂtion. Some time ago, I took an interest in watches. And now I have twelve incredÂible (and careÂfully researched and acquired) watches that bring me much joy. So, I’m now the ownÂer of a growÂing watch colÂlecÂtion — and a staÂtion of watch modÂding tools.
OMAD (One Meal a Day). For 365 days, I’ve pracÂtised interÂmitÂtent fastÂing by eatÂing once daily. I’m not recomÂmendÂing 23:1 to anyÂone, but I appreÂciÂate how eatÂing once daily makes me feel.
My first digitÂal product. While editÂing my online PR course, I also launched a digitÂal product on how to write B2B blog posts.
What Didn’t Go So Well This Year?
Missed the deadÂline — again. Creating and launchÂing online courses at Spin Academy is chalÂlenÂging. Still, I don’t want to lower my standÂards, so I keep fightÂing through the proÂcess. And I’m getÂting close to pubÂlishÂing two stelÂlar online PR courses using SamCart. 2023 will be the year!
Not enough sleep. In 2022, I averÂaged 5 hours and 14 minutes per night. What the heck am I doing with all that wakÂing time? As it turns out, I read non-ficÂtion books, write stuff that (litÂerÂally) nevÂer sees the light of day, and watch YouTube gamÂing conÂtent. My realÂisaÂtion is crysÂtal clear: I must priÂorÂitÂise sleep.
Wasted efforts. I spent a ridicuÂlous amount of time learnÂing how to speed up webÂsites. In hindÂsight, it wasÂn’t fun, and the resÂults werÂen’t overÂwhelmÂing. For some reasÂon, I spent an unreasÂonÂable amount of time on this project.
What Am I Working Toward?
Focus. In 2023, I’ve been a freelÂance PR adviser for ten years. The endeavÂour hasÂn’t been a straight shot: I first thought I wanted to build an agency — only to realÂise I didÂn’t. Then, I took 14 months of paternal leave. I also joined an online video busiÂness for a while. I’ve worked part-time with a sciÂence starÂtup for the last two years. I’m determÂined to transÂition into a full-time effort before the end of the year.
Thanks for readÂing. Please supÂport my blog by sharÂing artÂicles with othÂer comÂmuÂnicÂaÂtions and marÂketÂing proÂfesÂsionÂals. You might also conÂsider my PR serÂvices or speakÂing engageÂments.
